Why Crowd Source?
Cloak uses a modified version of an open source operating system called OpenWrt (our source code is here) and relies on Tor – also an open source public good. Our technical team are active members of open source software communities and are familiar with the trust building demands of security and privacy product development. We welcome volunteer programmers from the community to participate in the improvement effort for this platform.
The goal is to protect the non-expert public from any errors that we may have made that could compromise the intended function of the product.
We also need to produce a specially designed router (schematics here, mechanical design is a work in progress) and require funds for working capital to bring the per-unit cost down, pay for injection mould tooling and to establish Tor exit nodes to handle additional traffic.
